PHILLIP J. AYOUB

About Me

I am a PhD candidate in the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at The Pennsylvania State University. Currently I am working and studying at Intel Corporation as part of my dissertation (see my Research page).

Prior to the PhD, I received my BS in Psychology at the University of Wisconsin (Madison), where I also played soccer for the badgers. Releasing I was not going to get a job with a psychology degree, I obtained a masters in Industrial Engineering and Human Factors at the Pennsylvania State University. I also worked at the Payloads Concept Center, an advanced product development group at the Boeing Company, where we were asked to dream up the future of commerical flight, as well as a stint in Steelcase's WorkSpace Futures group, conducting research on generational differences in the workplace. I've also engaged with a number of other Fortune 500's as a consultant, and currently consult with Perigean Technologies LLC, a small firm specializing in the capture, portayal, sharing, and repurpose of knowledge.

BEYOND THE OFFICE

Outside of all the fun I have with research and work, I am an avid athlete and outsdoorsperson (something I've found to be a necessesity for maintaining my sanity). I played Division 1 soccer during my undergraduate years at the University of Wisconsin (or at least kept the bench warm). To keep myself inshape in the post-"good years", I've recently taken to triathlons (swim, bike, walk). Despite people assuming that I could run because I played soccer, I was a goalie... the fastest guy from there to there. Did you see that? Not a distance runner, although I'm learning.

After spending a year in Seattle and playing in the Cascades, I've also come to love mountaineering and on my bucket list is to climb the Seven Summits of the world, along with a number of other ridiculous items. I've climbed Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Mt. Baker and plan to climb Mt. St Helens and Mt. Hood sometime in the summer of 2010. In 2009, I traveld with Team Echo to South America to climb Aconcagua. In 2011, I hope to go to Kilomanjaro. While at Penn State, I also work as an outdoor rock guide for the Adventure Recreation Program. Below are a few photos from my adventures or otherwise.
